Clements High School Orchestra
About Us
Established in 1990, the Clements High School Orchestras are comprised of over 150 students in grades 9-12. We are a co-curricular program featuring four preforming string orchestras, one fundamentals string orchestra, and a full symphony formed in conjunction with the Clements Symphonic Band. Our favorite colors are hues of blue and white or concert black, and we strive to embody ownership and accountability, personal musical growth, musical growth of our ensembles, and program stewardship. String classes meet daily for fifty minutes, and may have one two hour rehearsal per week as needs dictate. The symphony meets once a week for two hours from January until their Pre-UIL and UIL performances in March. The performing string orchestras have four co-curricular performances per year, and two or three adjudicated/competitive performances.
The adjudicated/competitive performances include:
Texas Music Educators Association Honor Orchestra (Full and String)
University Scholastic League Concert and Sight Reading Contest
Regional or National festivals
All of the performing ensembles have a distinguished long and distinguished record of success under the batons of Michael Fleming (1990-1998), Penelope Meitz (1998-2006), Dixie Addington (2006-2007), and Ginger Wolfe (2007-present).
"The Clements Orchestras are composed of over 160 students dedicated to creating music. Over the years, the Clements Orchestra has consistently placed in the top level of the TMEA State Honor Orchestra competition for both String and Symphony Orchestra events, including being named at the 2000 State Honor Symphony. Clements was awarded the Mark of Excellence National Honor Orchestra Award twice in the past two years for Symphony and Chamber String performances of 2009 and 2010. Chambers has placed as high as first in the state in 2002, second in state in 2004, and has been top six in the state for at least 3 years running. Most of the students are active in the region and state level orchestras, and many students make state every year. In the winter of 2010, Clements was invited to Chicago for their Midwest Clinic day view. In the summer of 2011, they were second in state for Full Symphony Orchestra. That following year of 2011/2012, Chamber Strings got first in the state and was named the “Honor Orchestra” in the High School string division."
